Saturday is the big day at Barrett-Jackson, and it’s getting crazy. The stage is a zoo. The lights, the noise, and the fumes are only matched by the frenetic movement of bodies swarming around every car that crosses the block.

Now the Oldsmobile F-88 concept car is up for sale, and suddenly the stage gets even more crowded. I’m trying to get a decent photo of the car, and I almost have a clear shot when the bidding passes the million-dollar mark. Things start getting even crazier. It’s as if here at an auction where everyone usually knows what everything is going to sell for, this car is breaking all the rules.

“A million four, a million four? C’mon folks, it’s not that much If you say it fast,” says the auctioneer. He gets that, and more.
